On-Site SEO: Three Ways to Put Your Words to Work

Three Ways to Improve Your On-Site SEO

On-page SEO is a key aspect of optimizing your website for search engines. Make sure your copywriting is both readable for humans and findable by Google. SEO is an ongoing process and involves continuous monitoring and adjustments. But don’t let that overwhelm you. Here are three ways to improve your on-page SEO efforts:

  • Be choosy with your keyword selection: Select target keywords that reflect the intent of your page content. Once you’ve compiled a list, edit the word choices by researching the search volume for each. Then, use the keywords throughout at least the two main areas of your page.

    • Page Headers: Use your primary keyword in the main heading of your page (H1 tag in HTML) and throughout any other headers on the page if possible. For H1, there are a few key rules to follow. First, only have one H1 per page, keep the length between 50 to 60 characters, and make sure this header is very clear about the page content.

    • First paragraph: Use the primary keyword again, within the opening paragraph on the page in a readable way. Remember, in addition to optimizing for search engine crawlers, your readers are human. Make sure the keyword fits into the sentence structure and makes sense in context.

  • Write valuable copy Make sure you are creating content that’s valuable to your audience. For example, write informative insights about your market. Write how-to guides for using your products. And write answers to questions people ask on Google. By writing with your audience's needs in mind, you’ll more likely please your website visitors and increase your search result ranking.

  • Optimize your content: Have older content on your site and want to give it a new life? First, identify which pages are underperforming (high bounce rate, less scroll depth, low clicks, etc.). Then, figure out your optimization opportunities. For example: Are there any ways you can edit the page copy for better readability? Can you swap out any keywords to attract the right audiences? Can you shift content around to increase engagement? These adjustments will likely result in your audience spending more on your website.

Remember, strategic language is essential for search visibility and rankings. Yet, it's equally important to maintain authenticity and provide valuable for your audience. Balance your SEO optimization with meaningful and engaging copywriting.
